Like every Kubrick film, it takes several viewings to fully appreciate. It's a masterpiece in every sense and definetly superior to Oliver Stone's "Platoon". __________________________________________________

Ebert as always misses the point of the film (check his reviews on Reservoir Dogs, and A Mighty Wind for example). Miss Siskel. Though I didn't always agree with him I felt her truely had a gift for critiquing unlike his counterpart. __________________________________________________

Full Metal Jacket is a beautiful, surreal, and haunting film that explores contradictions between base emotions and intellect, while feeling like a dream. It's simple, stylized, and powerful. A great movie by a great Auteur. What's worse, Ebert considered it poor in comparison to Platoon!!!! Siskel was dead right; Ebert simply missed the mark. __________________________________________________
